This very fine used stamp with a dated cancel attracted some very strong bids. When it opened at a hammer price of twice catalogue, neither the telephone, nor the internet, nor the floor challenged the top bid in the book, and it sold at $240.

Most of the modern mint never hinged Commonwealth sets sold for very solid prices. This Falklands set reached $161, about 90% of the catalogue value. The two lots of South Georgia did even better with both selling for more than full catalogue.

This set of Spain sold for $316 despite being hinged. If the floor or internet had been more aggressive it would have sold for at least $517.

Lot 1179, Canada Air Mail Cover to Falkland Islands (Registered, Special Delivery), Realized $431
With this cover, the interest must have been the exotic destination of the Falkland Islands: from Canada it travelled via Miami and Uruguay in 1944. We estimated this lot at $200 but after spirited bidding it reached $375.
