The cover is franked with six 1p stamps (S.G. #53, Scott #57 in a block of four and a pair), all neatly canceled, name of addressee scratched out, else very fine. A scarce franking. Lot 641 1883 Snowflake, Manitoba Small Queen Registered Cover, mailed on JUN.27.1883, which is 16 years earlier than the ERD in the PHSC database, so new ERD. The cover is addressed to Winnipeg (JUL.2 receiver) and is franked with a 3c Small Queen (tied by a Lacelle #1138 fancy cancel) and 2c Registered letter stamp (not tied but belongs). Description of route on exhibit page reads “Three different registration numbers suggest renumbering each phase of the routing: Snowflake, Archibald and Emerson. Transported by J. Tees one trip a week to Pembina Crossing / Archibald, then carried by J. Rinn two trips a week on the Boundary Trail to Emerson, then rail to Winnipeg. Postal revenues were $64 in 1883.” Open on three sides and reduced at left, still a nice example of this scarce postmark. Estimate C$100, sold for C$300.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 630 1881 Glen William Ontario Cover to Souris Mouth, Manitoba, then Forwarded, mailed from Glen William on SEP.7.1881 to Souris Mouth, Manitoba, with the following postmarks: Winnipeg (SEP.11), Rapid City (SEP.14), Brandon (new ERD SEP.27) and Souris Mouth N.W.T. (OCT.8, rare, used for only 5 months). The cover is franked with two 2c Small Queens one on top of the other, first tied by fancy cancel, second with target cancel, which suggests a forwarding. Edge wear, still fine with good postmark interest and routing (see exhibit page notes). Estimate C$150, sold for C$700.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
