With this cover, the interest must have been the exotic destination of the Falkland Islands: from Canada it travelled via Miami and Uruguay in 1944.  We estimated this lot at $200 but after spirited bidding it reached $375.

Canada 1944 Air Mail, Registered, Special Delivery to Falkland Islands, mailed Toronto Nov 9, 1944. Rated 70¢ airmail + 10¢ for Registration + 10¢ Special Delivery. 90¢ rate paid by #252, 254, 261, C7, C8, E10 and 257 (on back). Miami Nov 11 and Uruguay transit handstamps on back. Paperclip rust mark at left and some minor toning do not detract from this scarce destination cover. Estimate $200, realized $431 with buyer’s premium.

Plate proofs like this and Lot 21 (featured last Wednesday) continued to be popular. This lot attracted seven advance bidders and another on the telephone, eventually selling to the floor for $450.

In their promotional literature, almost every auction house talks about their great successes. This exhibit was hammered down at $625, a respectable amount, but we thought the lot would go to at least $1000.

Canada Exhibit Collection of Henry Hechler Stationery. On pages as a one frame exhibit plus enough extras for a second frame. There is a total of 32 complete postal stationery or covers most with "Service" or "Official" overprints along with 19 items on piece including 2¢ Small Queen bisect on piece. The exhibit shows different colours, typefaces, doubled overprints. Very fine. Estimate $1000, realized $718 with buyer’s premium.

This lot attracted five strong advance bids and opened at $170 before selling to the floor at $220.

Lot 149, Canada #75iii 1898 1¢ deep green Numeral, Realized $253

This stamp with a catalogue value of "only" $100 combined quality and rarity. Within hours of our auction being posted online (and before the catalogues were delivered from the printer) it received almost identical bids of $210 and $220 and so opened at $220. At this rarified level there were no more bids. However for several days it had the honour of having the highest level of an opening bid for the whole auction.

Canada #75iii 1898 1¢ deep green Numeral with major re-entry, well centered within large margins and with a light cds cancel this stamp shows off the major re-entry visibly throughout the lower third of the design. An exceptional item, very fine. Unitrade CV $100 Realized $253 including premium.
