Lot 434, Canada 1991 40c Canada Day pane of 20 with multiple impressions, sold for C$1,579
Lot 434 Canada #1316 1991 40c Canada Day with Multiple Impressions, a complete mint never hinged pane of 20 stamps showing several impressions of each colour in cascade, creating a blurred effect. There are also small blotches of blue-green and dark blue ink in the margin at right. We found this sheet in an accumulation of modern sheets consigned to us, as it immediately stood out. Accompanied by a 2021 Greene Foundation certificate stating “a pre-production printing taken during press setup leaving multiple impressions,” as well as a photograph taken with the VSC 6000 showing an enlargement of the variety. Estimate $750, sold for C$1,350.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
Lot 1435, People’s Republic of China used collection 1949-64, sold for $1228
Lot 1435 China (PRC) Used Collection on 60 Quadrille Pages, 1949 to 1964, close to complete in period, excluding definitive issues. We note that the majority of the early issues are reprints, but the collection includes many better items such as souvenir sheet #344a ($110), set of four mini-sheets of 245a-248a (($80), the 1960 Fish set (missing one stamp, still about $100), the 1960 Flowers set ($120), 1964 Roses set ($100) and many better sets throughout. The lot also contains a few first day covers from 1982 and 1987 as well as souvenir sheet from Canada ’82 and a few pages of North East China stamps from the 1940s. See scans for a small taste. Lot 435 Canada #1375b var 1995 $1 Yorkton Saskatchewan Court House with Dramatic Foldover, a mint never hinged sheet of 25 from the Canadian Bank Note Co. printing, with a lower right corner foldover which occurred after printing and before the perforation and trimming processes, resulting in the perforations appearing correct when folded, as well as showing many untrimmed outer sheet edge printer’s information when unfolded, including traffic lights, centering crosses, a plate number, etc. The sheet has minor bends from handling, still rare and impressive. Estimate $500, sold for C$1,900.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
