
Lot 741 Canada #4 3d Red Beaver Imperforate on 1857 Illustrated Advertising Cover, mailed from Hamilton on JUN.5.1857 (“changeling” datestamp at left) to Norwichville C.W., with Norwichville and Paris backstamps, both dated JUN.6. The cover has a lavishly illustrated embossed corner card advertising for the Newbury & Birely company of Hamilton in blue-black, and is franked with an extremely fine example of the 3d red Beaver with four large and balanced margins, neatly tied by a crisp 4-ring #16 obliterator which has an RF 7 on Pence issues (only used in the Pence era), and an early example, as the first 4-ring numeral known is dated from March 1857. A lovely cover in all respects, which possesses many desirable attributes, extremely fine and easily worth more than our starting price. Ex Guilford (1994), Carrington (2002) and Cantor (2011). Lot 759 Canada #35, F1 1888 Registered 1c + 2c Drop Letter to Dead Letter Office, mailed to and from Ottawa on JUL.9.1888 (boxed registration datestamp), the recipient could not be found, as evidenced by “could not be found on…” manuscript note, with octagonal “NOT CALLED FOR / OTTAWA / JUL.31.1888” datestamp. Then sent to Dead Letter Office and received there on AUG.6, (large c.d.s. on back) then with AUG.9 large broken circle on back. This very fine cover is franked with a 1c SQ and 2c RLS (both tied by rosette fancy cancels), paying for the drop letter registered rate. Estimate C$250.

Lot 829, Canada 1936 Pan-Am Clipper cover Vancouver to Hong Kong
Lot 829 Canada 1936 75c Rate Pan-Am Clipper Cover to Hong Kong, mailed on DEC.19.1936 at Vancouver, flown by Pan-Am to Manila, where the clipper service ended in 1936 and addressed to the First Officer of the Canadian Pacific ship Empress of Russia. The rate was paid by a 50c Victoria Parliament Buildings issue plus a #222 and #225. Rough opening at top, fortunately mostly visible from the back only plus a few minor faults, still a scarce cover which also adorned by a Vancouver Golden Jubilee cinderella. Estimate C$150.
