Die sunk measures 53 x 71 mm and is mounted on a larger card. There are two plate numbers beneath the image: a crossed-out “P” number and a final adopted “V” number. A striking and rare item, and ideal for Cents issue collectors. Estimate $2,000, sold for C$1,600 plus buyer’s premium.

Mailed at Québec AUG.10.1877 to Glasgow, Scotland (AUG.23). Faults, including missing backflap, edge wear, small tears and ageing, still a scarce franking for this rate. Estimate $150, sold for C$170 plus buyer’s premium.
