Types II and III with different States, many indicated on cover in pencil), a 10c single franking on cover front to Bordeaux, a 30c single franking on cover front to England, two covers each franked with a single 40c (Scott c.v. $160 each), a pair of 10c with rare “Percé en ligne” experimental perforation on cover to Lyon, a pair of 20c on cover to Genoa Italy, a 10c and 20c combination on cover to England, a 4c (position 12, report 2) on September 1871 cover with a 20c Céres and 1c Napoléon paying a 25c rate to Bordeaux, and a 5c on cover with a 20c Céres paying a 25c domestic rate. Good variety of postmarks front and back, Bordeaux stamps have four margins or less, a nice, clean lot, from a tumultuous time period in France. All items scanned online. Estimate C$500.

Lot 1030, Canada 1873 pre-UPU advertising cover from Montreal to Nantes FranceLot 1030 Canada #10 1873 pre-UPU Double Weight Cover to Nantes France, mailed Montreal on NOV.7.1873, through London (NOV.19), has a “Paris à Bordeaux” datestamp (NOV.20) and then a Nantes receiver (NOV.20). There is a manuscript “6” for the British transit claim. The cover is franked with a pair of 2c and two 6c Small Queens (all perforated 11½ x 12) paying the proper rate for letters over ¼oz and under ½oz. The backflap has a blue oval advertizing for “A. Lechevallier / Naturaliste / Montreal, P.Q.” Carried by the Allan Line Samarian from Québec City to Liverpool. Small tears at right do not detract from this lovely and very fine cover.
