Lot 744 China 1940 (late December), Shanghai to New York, censored registered airmail cover via Hong Kong, franked with single $5 brown-carmine and $5 Junkers Air Post, tied by black bilingual Shanghai c.d.s., date illegible but almost certainly a few days prior to December 23, when the Japanese occupied Hong Kong, red “G.R. OPENED BY CENSOR HONG KONG” tape at right, Shanghai violet handstamped registration etiquette and violet straight-line REGISTERED handstamp, blue AIR TRANSIT 6 double-circle and red framed AIR MAILS handstamp, reverse with Honolulu (13 Jan), New York (18 Jan and 20 Jan) backstamps, small flaws typical of such mail, fine-very fine. Estimate C$150, sold for C$425.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 588 Canada #74, 78, 86 1899 Registered Map cover to Hawaii, mailed from Montréal on MAR.16.1899 (squared circle precursor free strike on front plus two more on back) to Honolulu Hawaii, with APR.4 receiver on front through Seattle Wash (MAR.23 transit on back). The two cent stationery cover is uprated with two half cent and one three cent Numerals plus a pair of two cent Maps (all stamps have perf toning) making up the required 10c UPU registration rate. A scarce destination, very fine. Estimate $200, sold for C$475.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 1033 Correspondence from Hawaii to Nova Scotia, 1892-1898, with 31 covers, all mailed from Honolulu (mostly duplex cancels, some in purple) to Old Bridgeport, Nova Scotia. There is a good variety of frankings, including some Provisional Government overprints, mostly all 5c rates with a few 10c. Includes an 1893 5c stationery cover as well. These are from the “Mitchell Mining Find” and most have faults including rough openings. See scans for a small sample. Estimate $150, sold for C$3,200.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
