Lot 302, Iran 1915 1c to 5k Kings and Historical Buildings set of unissued stamps, sold for C$1,989Lot 302 Iran 1915 1c to 5k Kings and Historical Buildings Set of Unissued Stamps, With and Without SERVICE Overprint, a mint never hinged set of 19 without overprint, plus a mint never hinged set of 19 with SERVICE overprint in red, with many issues having sheet margins. These were printed for the Iranian government in 1915 by Joh. Enschedé en Zonen, of Haarlem, Holland in sheets of 25. 100 sheets of each denomination were delivered to Tehran, but they were never put into use. In 1940, a total of 90,000 of these stamps were destroyed, leaving a possible 130 complete sets (or less). Rare and seldom offered. Fine to very fine. Persiphila catalogue US$2,700. Estimate C$500, sold for C$1,700.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

The cover is franked with Scott #s 843 (x4 singles) plus an imperforate sheetlet of four of #870D, which has a commemorative cancel reading “SOIXANTIEME ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA NAISSANCE DE S.M.I. = TEHERAN”. Vertical crease not appearing to affect the sheetlet (appears to be underneath), else very fine. Scott value given is for the sheetlet off-cover (see footnote). Scott CV U$1,500.
