Lot 583 Iraq #15-27var 1931, ½a green to 25r violet King Faisal I, perforated SPECIMEN, a lightly hinged set of thirteen, with large part original gum, overall well-centered and of good colour, the examples with sheet margins with small hinge remnants on selvedge, the odd stamp with lightly toned gum, the 4a value with small thin, else remarkably fresh and scarce, an appealing and desirable set, chiefly very fine. Lot 659 Old Time Mesopotamia and Iraq Collection to 1960, all neatly displayed in two stockbooks, which have just recently been opened for the first time since 1961. The collection is organised by used first, followed by mint, with the Officials arranged within chronologically. The used starts with a good representation of issues from 1918 and on, with many complete plus a few almost complete sets, including some better items such as #s 12, 13, 59, 77 (x10, at $20 each), 78 (x4, at $32 each), RA1 (x15, $15 each), RA2 (x6, $14 each), RA3 (x9, $9 each), RA5 (x9, $10 each), as well as a number of used singles cut out from the 112/127 and C1-C8 perforated and imperforate souvenir sheets. The mint runs from 1923 to 1948, with better such as # 40 (one NH and one H, $25 for both), 41 (NH, $65), 42 (x4 NH, $190 each), 43 (NH, $400), 59 (NH, $135), 77 (x2 NH, $35 each), 78 (x2 NH, $110 each), 100-01 (NH, $90), O113-14 (NH, $50), plus 3 pages of NH blocks of four, followed by mint and used railway stamps, revenue stamps, a page full of used blocks of four and four NH souvenir sheets (two perforated and two imperforate) of #s 112/127 and C1-C8. Lot 1618 Persia/Iraq 1923-1924 Baghdad to Cairo Covers, first was mailed MAR.30.1923 Baghdad to Cairo then on to England, franked with 6 British Occupation Iraq stamps, fine. Second mailed Teheran on DEC.24.1924 to Dublin, Ireland, franked with 10 Persia stamps depicting Ahmed Shah Qajar (some are on back of cover) with bilingual “BY AIR MAIL BAGDAD-CAIRO” handstamp in purple plus Teheran registration markings, Bagdad c.d.s. on back. This is a very early first First Flight from Iran, carried by a Junkers F13 aircraft were among the world’s best airplanes, from the military and transport point of view. Opened a bit roughly at top, still very fine and unlisted in AAMS. Also includes two 1933 flight covers Baghdad to Stephen Smith in Calcutta India, both with additional “Karachi-Calcutta / First Air Mail” pictorial handstamps on back (these with light stains, else fine).
