Lot 16 Canada #7 1851, 10d blue Jacques Cartier, fantasy sketch in pencil, on thick paper, approximately 130mm x 1170mm, purportedly the work of the original designer, with “Clinton Wright 1854” and “R W H & E New York” written in pencil below design, noted at upper right “Purchased from the collection of Mr. Maurice Burrus, Feb 1959, Shanahan Auctions, Dublin, Ireland” and apparently signed by the infamous Dr. Paul Singer, with “Maurice Burrus” written below, incredibly well-executed, and though a fabrication of uncertain origin, a whimsical addition to a specialized collection. Estimate C$250, sold for C$1,200.00 plus 18% buyer’s premium.
