Lot 474 South Africa (Orange Free State) #113 1900, 1d on 1d purple, overprinted “V.R.I. / 1d” in black, Thin “V” and raised stops, sheet of 240 in four panes of sixty, never hinged, with a number of varieties evident including mixed raised and level stops, wide spacing between “V” and “R”, etc, these sometimes noted in pencil in selvedge, file folds through horizontal and vertical gutters, some creasing to margins as expected, yet a scarce sheet.Estimate C$150, sold for C$600.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
