Lot 758, Canada collection of 104 mostly Illustrated Advertising Covers, sold for C$1,521
Lot 758 Collection of 104 Mostly Illustrated Advertising Covers, 1876-1950s, most are Small Queen to Admiral era, with only twenty-four covers that are later up to the 1950s. Note advertising for wholesaler, hotel, hardware, boot and shoe manufacturer, funeral home, Corset Co., tobacco and more, with the vast majority from the province of Québec. Note four fronts, and two covers that are trimmed (these with Small Queen frankings). Others might have tears or other minor faults. That said, this is a better than average lot, and overall condition is fine to very fine, with many very fine. Many are still in dealer sleeves, some priced in the $25 to $100 range. All scanned online. Estimate $600, sold for C$1,300.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
Lot 618, Québec 1813 Ship Folded Letter Chambly to England, sold for C$920
Lot 618 1813 Québec Ship Folded Letter to England, datelined “Camp near Chambly June 22nd 1813” this folded letter is handstamped with a double oval “Ship Letter / QUEBEC” with crown in the centre, plus another very similar “Ship Letter / DEAL” also with crown (undoubtedly of same manufacture). With red wax seal on back, alongside a GPO London double circle in red receiver dated “F / 6 AU 6 / 1813”. Small part of letter sheet missing, still very fine. Estimate $150, sold for C$800.00 plus 15% buyer’s premium.
Lot 1032, France/Canada 1877 folded letter Paris to Québec City through London
Lot 1032 France #12 1877 pre-UPU France to Canada redirected, a folded letter mailed from Paris (Place de la Bourse JUL.5.1877) to Québec City (JAN.20 receiver on back) through London (JUL.6 PAID transit on front, plus an orange crayon “1d”). The letter was then forwarded to Rivière du Loup en Bas, by adding a 3c Small Queen, tied by a Québec duplex on JUL.20. The letter was finally received there on the same day. A lovely three-colour, dual country franking on a folded letter (no letter inside), with a vertical crease and tear at top, both not affecting the stamps or the pleasing visual aspect. Letters are scarce to rare from France to Canada in this period, and this one is no exception, especially with its added interest. Estimate $1,500.
