Lot 1204Sparks Auctions is pleased to announce our Public Auction #10, to be held Tuesday-Thursday June 26-28th, 2012 at our auction premises at 62 Sparks Street, Ottawa, Canada.

The catalogue is still in production and the sale has just been posted to the internet. We can offer a small preview of the more interesting material to be found in the sale.

Our Canada section will be strong in Small & Large Queens, and also has some exceptional early Queen Elizabeth II definitives. From a single estate there are some large multiples of the War Tax overprints in the Five Cent to Fifty Cent values.

Commonwealth features some GB Penny Blacks, while Worldwide contains strong Germany and a rare USA classic block. And the Kershaw Collection of Tibet & Nepal will amaze even jaded viewers.

The Postal History section highlights many collector-developed sidelines and very strong Semi-Official Airmails.

Lot 768 Mauritius 1d red and 2p blue Queen Victoria Compound Die Proofs on card measuring 128x101mm. This was made from the original dies from which the two stamps were printed Only a small number were printed before the dies were defaced. A rare opportunity to own die proof impressions of two of the rarest and most expensive stamps ever issued. Very fine. Estimate $1,000, realized $1250.00.

We begin our auction highlights with this stunning block of the six cent red brown Small Queen.

Canada #43 block of thirtyLot 80 Canada #43 1890 6¢ red brown Small Queen block of thirty. A gorgeous and fresh, mint never hinged block (five by six) from centre of left sheet, showing full imprint in left selvedge. We note a particularly strong re-entry in position 24. Very fine as a block and with very light gum disturbance on seven stamps and small reinforcement between two stamps, all mentioned for the record. Worthy of the finest collection. Catalogued as twenty-three never hinged and seven hinged. Unitrade CV$22,800, Realized $8500

Canada #43 6c Red Brown Small Queen Block of 30. A gorgeous and fresh, mint never hinged block (5 by 6) from centre of left sheet, showing full imprint in left selvedge. We note a particularly strong re-entry in position 24. Very fine as a block and with very light gum disturbance on seven stamps and small reinforcement between two stamps, all mentioned for the record. Quite possibly the second largest multiple extant and worthy of the finest collection. Catalogued as 23 never hinged and 7 hinged. Unitrade CV$22,800
