The document is franked with $1 green Edward VII (NFR12) revenue stamp and cancelled with a nicely-struck “Department of / Agriculture & Mines / OCT 22 1909” marking. Lot 475 South Africa (Orange Free State) #114 1900, 2d on 2d bright mauve, overprinted “V.R.I. / 2d” in black, Thin “V” and raised stops, sheet of 240 in four panes of sixty, never hinged, some examples showing thicker “V” or other small varieties, tone spots on gun, vertical and horizontal fold through gutters, some creasing in margins as expected, perf separation at gutter in first row, but scarce and not often seen.
