W. Romans, very fine and rare; the example pictured in the van Dam catalogued, and accompanied by a 2008 van Dam certificate; ex Pitblado. van Dam C$950, sold for C$1,450.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 583 Iraq #15-27var 1931, ½a green to 25r violet King Faisal I, perforated SPECIMEN, a lightly hinged set of thirteen, with large part original gum, overall well-centered and of good colour, the examples with sheet margins with small hinge remnants on selvedge, the odd stamp with lightly toned gum, the 4a value with small thin, else remarkably fresh and scarce, an appealing and desirable set, chiefly very fine. (S.G. 80s-92s, £2,250) Estimate C$1,200, sold for C$1,600.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.

Lot 131, Canada 1897 Diamond Jubilee set with SPECIMEN overprint mint o.g., sold for C$3,744Lot 131 Canada #50-65SP 1897, ½c to $5 Diamond Jubilee, overprinted SPECIMEN in violet, the overprint in serifed uppercase letters, each with hinged original gum, colours bright and fresh, typical fine centering for the lower denominations, the dollar values nicer than often encountered, the 15c with crease and 50c with light bend, a scarce set, rarely offered inclusive of the lower values, overall fine-very fine. Estimate C$2,000, sold for C$3,200.00 plus 17% buyer’s premium.
