Lot 51 Canada #17P 1859 Prince Consort Vignette Die Proof Essay, with image measuring 18 x 22 mm and showing what appears to be an exact reverse image of that appearing on the issued stamp in 1859. Die sunk measures 51 x 69 mm and is mounted on a larger card. There are four plate numbers beneath the image: a crossed-out “P” number, two crossed-out “V” numbers and a final adopted “V” number. A striking and rare item, and ideal for Cents issue collectors. Estimate $2,000, sold for C$1,600 plus buyer’s premium.
