
Lot 386 Canada 1899 Overpayment of the old UPU Registered Rate to India, mailed Shediac NB on AUG.28.1899 (squared circles) registered to Madras, British India, through St John NB, London England (SEP.6), SEA POST OFFICE (SEP.18), Triplicane (SEP.25) and Mylapore (SEP.25). 2c stationery cover is uprated with a 2c Map, two different Provisionals and a 2c Numeral, paying the old UPU rate of 10c, overpaying by 3c. The new 7c (2c + 5c) rate took effect on January 1st, and not everyone must have known, or some would say they refused to acknowledge it. Very fine. From the Robert Lunn Map Stamp Collection. Lot 372 1899 Registered Special Delivery Cover, being a Walker House illustrated advertising cover mailed from Toronto to Bridgeton NJ on JAN.16.1899, through Boston (JAN.18 transit on back). Franked with a block of four of the 2c Map (these overpaying the 2c + 5c registration rate by 1c), plus a green 10c Special Delivery. Special delivery to the US had to be prepaid with a US SD stamp or 10c worth of regular US postage stamps in order to obtain the service, and in this case the Canadian 10c would pay only for Canadian service. Lot 903 India #203-206 1948 1½a – 10r Gandhi Set on First Day Cover, postmarked Bombay G.P.O on 15 August 1948, mailed air mail to New York City, with two different receivers on back, alongside a Bombay registration label. This is the better and scarcer black (mourning) cover, with the 10r stamp being sound (white area below it is a white area for affixing the stamp), very fine, rare and highly sought after. Rsv. Lot 483 Canada #F2c 1890s 5c yellow green Registration Imperforate, mint upper left corner block of four, with full original gun, bottom pair is never hinged. There is a full “FIVE” counter above stamp position one, and a small part printer’s imprint above position two. A very fresh and attractive block, with only 200 imperforate pairs recorded. Unitrade CV$4,500, sold for C$2,000 plus buyer’s premium.
