Lot 5, Canada 1858 half pence deep rose horizontal strip of six on folded cover Newboro to OttawaLot 5, Canada 1858 half pence deep rose horizontal strip of six on folded cover Newboro to OttawaLot 5 Canada #8 1858 (March 1), ½d deep rose horizontal strip of six on folded cover from Newboro to Ottawa, paying the 3d single letter rate, the strip with margins close to large except just touched at left of stamp 1 and slightly in on stamp 4, tied by three crisp target cancels with Newboro despatch c.d.s. at lower left and backstamped with City of Ottawa / U.C. arrival c.d.s. (3 Mar), a couple of unobtrusive filing folds affecting stamps 1 and 5, yet an important and extremely rare showpiece of exceptional visual appeal, one of only twelve covers recorded with this franking, of which just two bear intact strips of six; ex Nickle (Firby Auctions, 29 Oct 1988, lot 388), de Volpi, and Jarrett.
