Lot 374 South Africa (Cape of Good Hope) #179 1900, 3d pale blue Baden Powell, issued in Mafeking, photographic printing, perforated 12, 18.5mm wide, cancelled by neatly-struck Mafeking/C.G.H. c.d.s. (11 Apr), a pleasing example of this scarce and popular siege issue, very fine. Scott CV$450.
Lot 882, Cape of Good Hope 1890 cover addressed to Queen Victoria
Lot 882 Cape of Good Hope 1890 Cover Addressed to “The Highly Honoured and Well Renowned and Famous Queen A. Victoria,” mailed from Robertson, Cape of Good Hope on JAN.21.1890 (free strike of c.d.s.), with four strikes of #25 grid obliterator canceling four 1d stamps (folded over top, and paying the 4d rate in effect from 1888-1890) and addressed 146 Queen Victoria Street, London, England. Back has a Cape Town JA.22 c.d.s. and London FE.10 receiver. According to Charles Verge, former RPSC President, “all covers addressed to Queen Victoria were to be stored with their correspondence unless the Queen gave her Ladies in Waiting special permission to keep them, and very few are in public hands.” Bit of overall toning, still very fine. A rare cover, the first we have handled, and would be a great addition to any royalty or Cape of Good Hope collection. Estimate C$150.

Lot 1466 Lovely Old Time British Commonwealth Collection in Two Volume New Imperial Albums, with a mix of mint and used from early classics to about 1936. Most of the countries appear to be present, except for missing Canada and GB. An above average collection with too many better items to list, but we note Antigua to the 3sh (mint), Australia #11 (used), Burma #O14 (used, $240), Cape of Good Hope with 9 triangles plus two fakes, good early Ceylon, Gibraltar #74 (mint $110), useful Hong Kong with 90 stamps, Mauritius #17 (used), lots of India and States, Australia and States including a New South Wales #B1 (used), South Australia #53e (mint, $190) and much more. Many stamps or sets cataloguing up to $100, and many more up to $50, we noted a good quantity of better postmarks throughout. The quality is average to better than usual, and we invite you to view our many representative scans online, or better yet view it in person to better appreciate the value. Estimate $1,500, sold for C$4,800.00 plus 15% buyer’s premium.
Lot 1390, 1900 Boer War cover from Thaba Nchu to Barrie Ontario, then Toronto
1900 Boer War Cover, mailed from Thaba Nchu (O.V.S.) on SEP.7.1900 and franked with a 2½d stamp, then received a purple Canadian Contingent / South Africa datestamp on SEP.17.1900, then presumably went through GB before it arrived at its destination of Barrie, Ontario on OCT.15 (receiver on back). The next day it was forwarded to Toronto where it was received (on back) on OCT.16. A lovely Second Canadian Contingent cover, which are not commonly seen franked as such, very fine. Estimate C$500.
