The print catalogues for this sale are finally in the mail. There were multiple difficulties with our longstanding printer, resulting in late delivery to our offices, an initial shipment of overweight catalogues that required additional postage to mail, and a final shipment that was trimmed to qualify for the First Class mail rate but was therefore delayed even further while this was done.
If you are waiting to receive your catalogue before placing bids, please check out the PDF versions of the catalogue which are here on the website (and have been since July 22nd), or view the sale on Stamp Auction Network. If there is any concern about mailed bidsheets reaching us in time, remember that bids can be placed through SAN, by e-mail, by fax or by phone as well.
Lot 417 Nova Scotia #6b, mint, part o.g., Unitrade CV $75,000
Canada starts with a nice old-time collection of interesting provenance. The rest of Canada & BNA is comprehensive with some lovely rarities, including a mint Nova Scotia #6b. British Commonwealth is nicely represented in a short but inviting
section. One of our largest ever Worldwide sections offers abundant France and Germany as well as some very strong USA. Postal History is detailed and varied. Our lots and collections are destined to reward careful inspection; there is much to see.
We thank you for your bids in our Sale #14, April 8-10th, which concluded yesterday evening. There were more than 300 successful bidders. We are checking the sale results for accuracy, and then we will be readying invoices, organizing material, and preparing shipping estimates.
While we are working, our telephone line is going to voicemail, and we will only be able to respond to e-mails intermittently.
We will send you your invoice as soon as it has been checked and organized. Pickup for local bidders begins during office hours on Wednesday, April 16th, 10:00am-5pm. Please send us an e-mail or call with a message that you are coming to pick up, so we can have your material ready.
OUT-OF-TOWN CUSTOMERS
We will e-mail you your invoice with shipping charges as soon as it has been checked and organized. If we have your payment information on file and have your permission to charge you, we will do so and send your material as soon as we can. If you aren’t sure if we have current payment information, you can call our voicemail with the credit card details, or send it to us in multiple e-mails for security.
We thank all customers for their bids! Next week we will provide some commentary on our site about the auction and noting nice realizations.
Today we received delivery of the print catalogues and they were out the door and at the post office within the hour. Customers in the Ottawa area will likely receive theirs this week, as well as much of Ontario. The rest of Canada could expect a catalogue the week of March 24-28, and other destinations will see them the last week in March.
Please let us know if you were expecting a catalogue in the mail and did not receive it in the time frame mentioned above.
We are pleased to announce our Sale #14, to be held in Ottawa on April 8-10th, 2014. Collectors of all levels will find something of interest in this sale. This auction introduces to the stamp collecting community a handful of items not previously known as well as a great many rarities up to and including traditional world-class expensive classics. Every auction our consignors trust us to sell an increasing number of their valuable items. In this auction, a total of 105 consignors have laid out a veritable “candy store” of temptation.
One area that is expanding rapidly is postal history and postmarks. This auction our offerings, especially in Canada and BNA, offer an amazing variety of single and larger lots.
A fair number of the items to be offered have been in collections for decades and sometimes are offered for the first time from a correspondence not previously cherished by a stamp collector. The task of viewing these lots will certainly be challenging for our customers who try to view everything.
Canada #8 1857 ½d rose Queen Victoria
In Canada we start with one of the rarest Canadian stamps, an unused number one, and it does not go downhill from there. A very fine and never hinged half-penny stamp did not even make it to the front cover of the catalogue. After the auction the winning bidder will be pleased to have a top quality mint pence stamp on page one of his or her album. Top quality continues from the earliest to the latest in Canada. Then, as can be seen on the front cover, B.N.A. has some eye-popping
rarities.
Our popular Lots and Collections section has fewer lots than previously but the overall variety and value are comparable to previous auctions. Those who view will find that the median quality of the lots as well as the individual stamps has improved from previous auctions.
We always like mentioning literature and this auction offers hundreds of works not seen in prior auctions. A goodly number of these have been combined in carton lots and will prove interesting to collectors looking for new interests (they may also prove to be a bargain).
Our Worldwide section offers more lots than usual, as well as some strong USA. This and our British Commonwealth (check out the Rhodesia) round out a strong and diverse auction.
PDFs of the catalogue, instructions for bidding, and other additional material will be posted here on our site beginning Monday, March 17th. Print catalogues will be sent out next week to subscribers.
